SLIDING

BEARING

Ceramic sliding bearings are very useful under corrosive conditions or in fluids that contain sand or other abrasive particles. After all, ceramics are much harder than sand and excellent resistant to practically every environment. Ceramic sliding bearings are applied in several liquid pumps (submersible, impeller, screw, plunger, gear and magnetic coupled pumps), mixers, as radial or radial-axial bearings, single or double. The pumped liquid, such as water, takes care of lubrication.

BALL

BEARING

Ball bearings are available in full ceramic or as hybrid material. Emphasis is on application at higher temperatures and under corrosive conditions. Lubrication is often less critical. The liquid medium surrounding the ball bearing can give sufficient lubrication. At low loads and speeds there is no need for lubrication at all.

BALLS

 

Valve components can be made of ceramic materials for applications where their specific properties such as wear-resistance, chemical resistance, inertness and temperature resistance are fully appreciated.

 

The dimensional stability guarantees a constant sealing of the valve. As the flow will not increase, there will be no additional wear. Tool life improvement of a factor ten is no exception.

WAFERCHUCK

Within semiconductor industry, silicon carbide is often used as supporting material for wafers. The good wear-resistance and stiffness of the material result in a high precision of the wafer chuck.

 

THE WAFER CHUCK MAKES AN ACCURATE POSITIONING OF THE WAFER IN SEVERAL PROCESS STAPS POSSIBLE.

 

Linear guides made of ceramic materials can be applied in vacuum, so without the need for lubricants. Furthermore, the high stiffness is an added value for an accurate system.

Historically, structural parts and tools have been made of metal. However, during heavier loads metals exhibit wear, resulting in a shorter tool life. Ceramics offer a solution here; they are durable and wear-resistant. Metal parts are often replaced by ceramic parts on a one-to-one base.

ISOLATOR

Ceramic isolators have been applied for over 100 years. The fact is, ceramics are excellent electric isolators. And when the surface is smooth, ceramics are not sensitive to flash-over.

 

Ceramic isolators are being used abundantly. Examples are electrical applications such as in lamps. Also for high voltage applications ceramics are often used, with the spark plug as the most well-known example. But also some vacuum switches are made of ceramic materials.

 

AT CERATEC, WE OFTEN UTILISE METAL/CERAMIC JOINTS. FOR THAT PURPOSE WE HAVE MANY JOINING TECHNIQUES AVAILABLE.

FERRULE

Ferrules are often used in the petrochemical industry, for example as protective tube around heat exchangers. Ceramic ferrules have the advantages that they are inert and high temperature resistant.

 

 

Ceramic tubes are a good choice for applications at high temperatures or when wear-resistance is necessary. We have several dimensions of standard materials on stock. If you need a high bending strength or better impact resistance, in case of many large temperature changes or extreme wear, we can supply special types of ceramics.

 

 

THE TUBES ARE AS-SINTERED, AND NOT GROUND AFTERWARDS. USUALLY, THE TOLERANCES ARE ACCORDING TO DIN 40680.

 

 

If machining afterwards is necessary, for example to obtain better tolerances, our workshop can do this for you.

VALVE

Dosing and controlling the transport of abrasive and chemically agressive slurries and liquids is an intensive process. The use of conventional materials often results in wear and corrosion. The parts no longer seal, or dosing is no longer correct. Our ceramic valves offer a solution.

Also for relatively large ceramic valves, such as ball, slide or butterfly valves, Ceratec is the right company. These are often used in processes where large amounts of chemical and abrasive bulk substances have to be transported.

Ceramics are the ideal materials for nozzles. Ceramics are very wear-resistant, and hence have a good resistance to abrasive particles. The tool life of ceramic nozzles is very long. Also the chemical resistance of ceramics is good. This makes ceramics often a better choice than hard metals or steel.

 

APPLICATION OF CERAMIC NOZZLES

Our ceramic nozzles are applied in jet techniques. For example in cleaning equipment, but also as supply nozzle for abrasive raw materials.

 

The nozzles do not necessarily have to be cylindrical. They can also have a flat shape, for example to dose glue.

At Ceratec, we have a large amount of ceramic nozzles in stock.

 

 

By using a ceramic lining or coating, it is not necessary to make the entire product out of ceramic material. We have plates with standard dimensions available; with this, we can simply cover a product. For joining we use methods such as sealants, epoxy glues, clamping etc.

 

Custom-made

For difficult geometries such as concrete mixers or fodder mixers, standard plates are not satisfactory. The joining technique is critical here. Off course we have custom-made solutions for that.

HOMOGENISINGHEAD

In homogenising units within food industry, ceramic components are used specifically due to their inertness and good wear-resistance.

 

IN PRACTICE, IT TURNED OUT THAT THESE CERAMIC PARTS LAST AT LEAST A FACTOR TEN LONGER. THEY MAKE SURE THAT THE YIELD REMAINS EQUAL FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME.

GEAR WHEEL

To prevent the development of small cracks, ceramic components should not contain sharp geometrical edges, as is the case for e.g. gear wheels and products with threads. However, ceramics do exist that are less sensitive to crack growth. Surface finish does play a big role in bending strength.

 

The application of ceramics for gear wheels is very interesting. Ceramic gear wheels have some important advantages:

WE APPLY THREADS TO ALL KINDS OF CERAMIC PARTS. IN THIS WAY, THEY CAN EASILY BE CONNECTED TO THE OUTER WORLD.

We grind ceramic plungers very accurately and with a highly glossy surface roughness. This makes these plungers suitable to operate under very high pressures. Up to a pressure of as much as 10.000 bars, these ceramic plungers can be applied! For some applications, pumping can occur without additional sealing.

For positioning, a high accuracy is required. The following properties of ceramics make this material very suitable for precision parts:

VACUUM APPLICATIONS

For this purpose, ceramics are chosen that are 100% dense. So they will not degas in vacuum.

 

Pick & Place machines, for example in the electronic industry, have to operate fast and accurately. Ceramics are light and can be processed accurately. The material hardly wears, and hence is extremely suitable for this purpose.

 

The development of ceramic positioning parts by Ceratec has been an important breakthrough in mechatronics. Currently, ceramic linear guides are indispensable within this industry.

 

SENSOR

Sensors are applied for many purposes. For example to measure pressure, temperature or electrical resistance. But for example also to detect the presence of certain substances like oxygen. Therefore sensors have to meet stringent requirements. Often they have to be electrically isolating, and able to operate in an agressive environment or at high temperatures. Ceratec offers the solution by supplying ceramics.

 

In many sensors we utilise ceramic/metal joints. These are high-quality joints, as leakage is prohibited. They can also withstand high temperatures and pressure - also in cyclic loads. For sensors that operate in an agressive environment, we often choose for a very resistant type of ceramic like saphire.

 

CERAMIC AS PIEZOELECTRIC MATERIAL

In certain sensors, we make use of piezoelectric ceramics. By pressing or squeezing the material, an electric voltage or signal will be generated. This is applied in so called piezoresistive pressure and level sensors.

FEELER

For the present measuring equipment, it is of utmost importance to use materials that keep their shape during operation.

 

THE ACCURACY OF THIS MEASURING EQUIPMENT IS +/- 1 MICRON, WHERE STIFFNESS AND WEAR-RESISTANCE OF THE MATERIALS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE.

 

The ball is always made of ruby, and the shaft is made of aluminum oxide due to the high stiffness of this material. Also the red colour of ruby is important for the visibility with respect to the product.

Industrial ceramic knives are used in cutting processes of e.g. plastic foils where the wear-resistance of ceramic materials are utilised in an optimum way. The tool life is greatly improved, compared to steel knives.

 

THIS WAY WE REALISE A HIGHER OUTPUT AND SHORTER CHANGE-OVER TIMES.

 

Within the medical sector, another advantage is the material's biocompatibility.

 

WELDINGTOOL

Ceramics are electrically isolating, insensitive to weld spatters and wear-resistant. So the ideal material for welding tools. Usually these tools are loaded mechanically. That's why we choose for ceramics with a relatively high bending strength.

 

OUR CERAMIC WELDING STUDS ARE WIDELY USED IN THE AUTOMOTIVE FOR POSITIONING OF NUTS.

 

We also supply ceramic welding rolls and diabolo rolls. These are used for welding of tube and plate from sheet material.

For soldering techniques, often ceramic supporting plates are applied. Weld spatters do not attach to them, and they can withstand temperature changes very well.

Ceramics such as hexagonal boron nitride have properties comparable to graphite. However, the chemical and thermal resistance is much better. Boron nitride is applied as an additive to motor oil or grease, and as an anti-moistering agent and a lubricant in (non-ferro) foundries, in extrusion and in the glass industry.
